Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit for electrical work in Federal Way?
Most electrical work beyond swapping a like for like fixture or device needs a permit. Federal Way is one of the Washington cities that issues its own electrical permits and does its own inspections, through the City Building Division. Your electrician pulls the permit and schedules the inspection for you.
Can my panel handle an EV charger?
It depends on the panel size and what is already on it. Many 200 amp panels have room for a 40 or 48 amp charger. A lot of 100 amp panels do not, or need a load management device. We run a load calculation before we recommend anything.
My lights flicker. Is that dangerous?
A single flickering bulb is usually the bulb or fixture. Flicker across several rooms, or lights that dim when a large appliance starts, can point to a loose connection in the panel or at the service. That is worth a call soon, because loose connections heat up.
Why does my breaker keep tripping?
Usually the circuit is overloaded, a device on it has a fault, or the breaker itself is worn. Resetting it again and again is not a fix. We find which one it is and correct it.
Can I plug my generator into a wall outlet?
No. Back feeding through an outlet can send power out to the utility lines and injure line workers. A transfer switch or a panel interlock kit is the safe way to do it.
Does a ceiling fan need a special electrical box?
Yes. A fan needs a box rated to carry its weight and movement. Many older light boxes are not, so we check and replace the box when we install a fan.
