How to check a Washington electrician’s license
In Washington State, electrical contractors must be licensed and electricians must be certified by the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I). You can check any contractor in about 2 minutes, and we encourage you to do it before signing anything.
- Go to the L&I Verify a Contractor, Tradesperson or Business tool.
- Search by business name, owner name, contractor license number or UBI number.
- Confirm the result shows an active electrical contractor license, not only a general or specialty contractor registration.
- Review the bond, insurance and workers’ comp details, and look for any violations or lawsuits against the bond.
- Ask the person doing the work for their name and check their individual electrician certificate too.
